Website Maintenance Cost per Year in Indonesia: What Each Rupiah Pays For

For a company site in Indonesia, website maintenance cost per year usually lands between Rp1 and 6 million (roughly US$60–370). The bottom of that range is just the domain and hosting, for a site whose content you edit yourself. The top covers monthly security updates, backups and a monthly allowance of content changes done by the vendor. An online store, or any site where customers log in, is a different animal: budget Rp8–20 million a year. The gap has little to do with cheap or expensive vendors. It comes down to how much work actually gets done each month.

So the figure stops feeling like a black box, here is what goes into it.

The table uses 2026 market rates for small and mid-sized company websites in East Java. The right-hand column is for sites that take payments or store customer data.

A note on domains. A .co.id address costs a little more and needs company registration papers such as an NIB (Indonesia's business identification number) to register. That is exactly its value: nobody can register one in your company's name on a whim. For a business whose name keeps getting borrowed by scammers, an extra Rp200 thousand a year is cheap.

A Worked Example: A Building Supplies Distributor in Sidoarjo

Take a case we see fairly often. A building supplies distributor in Candi, Sidoarjo runs a 12-page WordPress company profile with a product catalogue that changes about once a month. The office admin is happy swapping photos but will not touch plugin updates — the right call.

1. .co.id domain: Rp350 thousand.
2. Business hosting with daily backups: Rp1.2 million.
3. Maintenance contract at Rp200 thousand a month, covering security updates, weekly off-site backups and a speed check: Rp2.4 million.
4. Licences for the form and product gallery plugins: Rp450 thousand.
5. A buffer for work outside the allowance, such as a new product category page: Rp600 thousand.

That comes to Rp5 million a year, about Rp420 thousand a month. If it feels heavy, the safest line to cut is the buffer, because the admin can learn to handle some of that work. Leave updates and backups alone.

What the Maintenance Contract Should Spell Out

"Maintenance" on a vendor quote can mean anything from renewing the hosting to round-the-clock monitoring. Get the details in writing. At minimum, these five:

• How often the CMS and plugins are updated. Monthly is enough for most company sites.
• Where backups are stored and for how long. A backup that lives only on the same server is useless when that server is the problem.
• The monthly allowance for content changes, and the hourly rate once it runs out.
• Response time when the site goes down. A working day is fair for a company profile; for an online store, count in hours.
• Whose name the domain is registered under. It should be your company, not the vendor or one of its staff.

Do It Yourself, or Hand It to a Vendor?

In our experience, a company profile site whose content rarely changes does not need an expensive maintenance contract. Decent hosting with automatic backups, a monthly plugin update by someone who knows what they are doing, and one staff member who holds every login will cover it. A full contract starts to make sense once the site takes orders, stores customer data, or has become the main source of quote requests.

Doing it yourself has a price that never appears on an invoice, though. A plugin update run without a backup can break the layout, and the one person who knows the setup can resign at any time. Emergency repairs after that kind of incident often cost more than a full year of maintenance.
