Signs your business website needs a redesign are almost always ones you can spot yourself in five minutes. Open your own address on your personal phone, on mobile data rather than the office WiFi. If the text takes more than four seconds to appear, if the WhatsApp number on the contact page belongs to someone who resigned, or if the year at the foot of the page still reads 2021 โ€” you have your answer. In Indonesia a light repair usually runs Rp1.5โ€“4 million, while a full rebuild sits at Rp4โ€“12 million. The expensive part is rarely the invoice. It is the buyer who closes the tab before finding your phone number.

These seven turn up most often when we audit a new client site, ordered by how much money each one quietly costs.

Seven Signs Your Business Website Needs a Redesign

1. It Takes More Than Four Seconds to Load on a Phone

The most expensive symptom, and the least noticed, because on an office desktop with strong WiFi everything feels fine. Most visitors to a company website in Indonesia arrive on a phone with a signal that comes and goes. Google also uses mobile speed as one of its ranking inputs.

Measure it free with PageSpeed Insights. If Largest Contentful Paint โ€” the time until the biggest element on the page becomes visible โ€” passes four seconds, the cause is usually the same: 5 MB photos uploaded straight from a camera, plus a dozen plugins nobody uses.

2. The Content No Longer Matches Reality

The old office address. A product line discontinued two years ago. A director who has since moved on. It reads as trivial, and the damage is immediate โ€” someone who drives to the old address will not call to check. They conclude the company has closed.

This is the cheapest sign to clear. An hour of work often covers it.

3. Visitors Have to Pinch and Drag to Read Anything

Sites built before 2018 often still serve a desktop layout shrunk onto a phone screen. Menus stack awkwardly, buttons sit too close together for a thumb, and phone numbers cannot be tapped to dial. For most companies in East Java, seven of every ten visitors arrive on a phone.

4. Nobody Can Tell How to Reach You

A contact form pointing at an inbox nobody opens is one of our most common findings. A heavy-equipment workshop in Waru, Sidoarjo once showed us its form inbox: 312 unread messages, the oldest from 2022. Roughly a third were quote requests.

That needs no new design to fix โ€” a WhatsApp button pinned to the screen and one number an actual person carries.

5. The Browser Labels Your Site "Not Secure"

If a "Not Secure" warning sits next to your address, the SSL certificate has expired or was never installed. That certificate is what encrypts whatever a visitor types into your site. Chrome shows the warning before a single word of your page gets read.

An unpatched CMS
A WordPress site whose plugins are never updated is the easiest target there is. The pattern we handle again and again: new pages quietly appear under a company's own domain, promoting online gambling. Owners usually find out when a customer asks about it, or when Google attaches a warning label in search results. Cleaning it up takes days, and the domain itself can need months to be trusted again.

6. Your Own Company Name Does Not Find You

Type your full registered company name into Google. If a third-party business directory or a marketplace listing outranks your own site while the official one sits on page two, something is wrong technically. Usually the site was never submitted to Google Search Console, or an index-blocking setting left over from the build was never switched off.

7. No One Can Change a Word of It

The most serious sign, and the least visible from outside. The old vendor is unreachable, nobody knows the hosting panel password, and the domain is registered to a name no one recognises. While that holds, your site can be neither repaired nor moved โ€” only left running until it expires.

Check this one first. The other six are academic if you do not hold the keys.

Repair, or Rebuild?

Not everything that feels dated needs demolishing. The dividing line is not the age of the site but whether its foundation still holds.

2026 market rates for small and mid-sized company sites in Indonesia. A rebuild price usually includes the first year of domain and hosting.

If the check points to a rebuild, what each price band actually covers is broken down on our website package page.

In our experience, most sites people describe as looking dated do not need demolishing. What irritates the owner is usually the typeface and the colours; what drives visitors away is speed and a wrong contact number. Those last two can be sorted inside a week for under Rp3 million.

There is a cost on the other side too. A rebuild always carries risk โ€” page addresses that change without automatic redirects to the new ones can erase rankings built over years. If the old site already brings in quote requests from Google, ask the vendor to include a redirect map from old addresses to new, and to put it in the written quote rather than a verbal promise.

If you would rather have an outsider run this list before you commit a budget, bring your address to a free consultation through our Sidoarjo website service page. Companies based in Surabaya go through the Surabaya page instead. Both pages are in Indonesian. Half an hour is usually enough to know whether this is a week of work or a month-long project.

How often should a company website be updated?+
Content โ€” prices, products, project photos โ€” is worth touching every three to six months. Security updates for the CMS and its plugins should be monthly, and that is the part most often skipped. The design itself does not need replacing nearly as fast; three to four years is still reasonable as long as the site remains comfortable on a phone.
Can redesigning a website push my Google rankings down?+
It can, and the cause is almost always the same: page addresses change with no redirect to the new ones. If the content and the addresses are preserved, any dip tends to be small and recovers within four to eight weeks. Ask the vendor to prepare the redirect map before the new site goes live, not after.
The vendor who built our old site has disappeared. Can it still be updated?+
That depends on what you still hold. If the email address the domain was registered under is still accessible, the domain can nearly always be recovered. If not, it is usually faster to register a close alternative and rebuild while pursuing the old domain in parallel. What cannot be recovered without hosting access is the content of the old site, so save a copy of the text and photos now.
