Server Rental Cost in Indonesia: What a Small Business Actually Pays per Month

A long row of rented storage units with roll-up doors, an analogy for renting server capacity by the month

Server rental cost in Indonesia runs from Rp50,000 to Rp500,000 a month, and what moves the number is how much RAM you take. The sizes businesses actually run sit in the middle, around Rp139,000 to Rp269,000. That figure buys the machine and nothing else. Add a control panel licence, backups and somebody to keep it running, and a realistic monthly total lands between Rp600,000 and Rp1,500,000. Every price below was read off the Rumahweb, Biznet Gio and Jagoan Hosting pricing pages on 4 October 2026.

So the question that decides your budget is not what it costs. It is who looks after the machine at two in the morning.

Server rental cost in Indonesia by workload

You are really renting one thing: memory. Processor and disk scale along with it, and almost every Indonesian provider names its plans after the RAM figure. Find the row closest to what you run, then read the price.

Machine size and what it rents for per month

Ranges taken from the Rumahweb VPS and Biznet Gio NEO Lite price lists, read on 4 October 2026. Machine only โ€” no control panel licence, no backup storage, no management.

Two providers can charge differently for the same RAM, and it usually comes down to three things: the disk type (NVMe costs more than plain SSD), whether a copy is held automatically in a second availability zone, and whether an extra public IP is included. Rumahweb sells additional IPs at Rp50,000 to Rp70,000 each. Line those three up before you compare any two quotes.

The Rp50,000 plan with 512 MB of RAM is real, and for learning or one small script it is enough. Do not start there for something staff use daily: a machine that size runs out of memory as soon as the database grows, and moving a live system always costs more than taking the right size at the outset. Sizing a plan before you order is part of the cloud services work we do.

Three cost lines the price list leaves out

A provider page quotes the machine. These three still get paid, and two of them are often larger than the rent.

  1. Control panel licence. Jagoan Hosting sells a cPanel licence separately from Rp400,000 per account per month. On a Rp179,000 VPS the licence is more than double the machine. You can run without one, but every routine task becomes a command line task.
  2. Backups. On an unmanaged plan, backups are not automatic. If you do not set them up, they do not exist. Budget the storage and the time to test a restore โ€” a backup nobody has restored is not yet a backup.
  3. Somebody to run it. Operating system patches, expiring certificates, a service that dies overnight. Whether that is an in-house hire, a vendor or you, it has a price.
Unmanaged means you are the administrator
Jagoan Hosting states on its own VPS page that the service is unmanaged, with support limited to restart, rebuild and error tracing. So if the service goes down because of a configuration change, a failed update or a full disk, that is your side of the line. Other providers draw the same boundary in their own words. Read that section before comparing prices โ€” two Rp200,000 plans can mean two completely different levels of responsibility.

A worked example from Candi, Sidoarjo

One building materials distributor in Candi runs a stock application for 12 users. The machine is 4 vCPU with 4 GB of RAM at Rp179,000 a month. They use no paid control panel, so that line is zero.

  1. Machine rent: Rp179,000 a month.
  2. Backup storage: around Rp50,000 a month for a daily copy kept off the main machine.
  3. Technical time: assume 3 hours a month at Rp150,000 an hour โ€” updates, log checks, one test restore. That is Rp450,000.

Rp679,000 a month in total. The cheapest managed plan we checked that day, Jagoan Hosting Emerald, lists at Rp700,000 a month and includes licences the page values at Rp549,000 plus the people who handle it. The gap is almost nothing. The rate and the hours above are an assumption โ€” substitute your own and the total shifts, but the direction rarely does.

That is why a cheap VPS is often not as cheap as it looks. Not because the price is dishonest, but because one of its cost lines is paid in hours rather than by bank transfer.

When renting stops making sense

There are two exits, and both have a clear threshold.

  • Downward: if all you run is a company profile site and email, shared hosting at Rp15,000โ€“Rp35,000 a month finishes the job. Renting your own machine only adds work.
  • Upward: once you need a dedicated physical machine, the price jumps. The smallest bare metal server at Biznet Gio, a Xeon with 8 cores and 32 GB of RAM, lists at Rp4,699,000 a month. At that level, buying hardware is worth recalculating.

That jump is rarely about price alone. Usually something else drives it โ€” data that cannot leave the building, or an old system that will not move. When the discussion reaches that point, the server room and the office network have to be sorted out first, which is IT infrastructure work.

What we suggest for year one

In our experience most small businesses in Indonesia do not need to rent a server at all in their first year. Shared hosting carries the site and the email; off-the-shelf point-of-sale and accounting products already run on their own subscriptions. A server becomes genuinely necessary when you own a system of your own that has to stay up around the clock.

Being honest about the downside: shared hosting gives you no root access, so you cannot install anything beyond what the provider offers, and performance is affected by other customers on the same machine. Some managed plans withhold root access too โ€” Jagoan Hosting says so openly on its managed VPS page. If your team genuinely needs that freedom, pay more at the start and take your own machine.

And if what you are really after is not a machine price but the whole picture โ€” which systems to build, where to run them, what the year costs โ€” that conversation belongs with an IT consultant in Sidoarjo before any plan gets ordered.

What is the difference between renting a server and shared hosting?+
With shared hosting, one machine serves many customers and the provider configures everything. With a VPS you rent a slice of a machine with full access and may install whatever you like โ€” but the configuration becomes your responsibility. On 4 October 2026 the price difference for comparable needs was roughly Rp15,000 against Rp109,000 a month.
Should the server sit in Indonesia or overseas?+
If your users are all in Indonesia, choose a local location. Physical distance sets the wait on every request, and it shows in an application people use all day. A local location also keeps customer personal data questions simpler. Prices are close enough right now that the saving rarely justifies the latency.
If demand grows, do we have to move servers again?+
Usually not. Indonesian VPS providers generally let you add RAM, processor or disk to the same machine, typically with one restart. Changing providers is the painful part, not changing size. Pick a provider whose next plan up still fits your budget.
