Cheap vs Business Web Hosting in Indonesia: Compare the Renewal Price, Not the Promo

A row of colourful shophouses each with its own frontage, an analogy for business web hosting where the resources are yours alone

The cheap vs business web hosting decision in Indonesia is not a choice between two grades of the same thing. Cheap plans run Rp12,900 to Rp75,000 a month and your CPU and memory are shared with hundreds of other accounts on one machine. Business plans start at Rp90,000 and reach Rp940,000 a month, with a resource allowance nobody else can touch. The catch is that the number on the promo page is almost never the number you pay next year. Every price below was read off Rumahweb, Jagoan Hosting and Hostinger pricing pages on 3 November 2026.

So the figure that decides your budget is the renewal rate, not the first-month rate.

Cheap vs business web hosting: what is actually being shared

On a cheap plan one physical machine carries everyone. The provider caps each account — how many processes may run at once, how much processor time you may burn, how much memory you may hold. While your neighbours are quiet, none of that is visible.

It becomes visible the moment one neighbour gets a traffic spike, or runs a leaking script that holds memory all day. Their consumption eats the machine, and your site slows down without you having changed anything. That certainty — that the allowance is yours alone — is the one thing a business plan sells.

Rumahweb states the distinction plainly in its own product menu. Shared hosting is labelled "shared CPU & RAM"; cloud hosting is labelled "dedicated CPU & RAM". One line, and that is the whole difference.

If you do not yet know how heavy your application really is, measuring it costs less than guessing upward. Sizing an account before you move it is part of the cloud services work we handle for businesses in Sidoarjo and Surabaya.

Promo price, renewal price, and the gap printed in grey

Nearly every large number on an Indonesian cheap-hosting page is a first-year rate, or the average rate of a long prepaid term. The renewal figure is there, in small grey type under the buy button.

Promo price against renewal price on Indonesian shared-hosting plans

PlanPromo/moRenewal/moResource allowance
Hostinger SingleRp12,900Rp54,9001 site, 10 GB, shared
Hostinger PremiumRp23,900Rp84,9003 sites, 20 GB, shared
Rumahweb EntryRp15,000Rp25,0003 sites, 1 GB, shared
Rumahweb MediumRp29,900Rp90,000Unlimited sites, shared
Jagoan Hosting ICONRp25,000Rp25,0005 GB, 1 core, 1 GB RAM, shared
Jagoan Hosting LEGENDRp75,000Rp75,00045 GB, 3 cores, 2 GB RAM, shared

Read from each provider’s own pricing page on 3 November 2026. The Hostinger promo requires the full 48-month term paid up front, and a Black Friday sale was running on the check date, so that discount depth will not hold all year. Jagoan Hosting prices exclude PPN 11% according to its own page.

Look at the Hostinger Single row again. Rp12,900 a month is accurate, but it requires paying Rp619,200 in one go for the next 48 months, and when that term ends the rate becomes Rp54,900 — more than four times higher. Rumahweb Medium moves from Rp29,900 to Rp90,000, a threefold step.

Jagoan Hosting goes the other way and prints it as a commitment: the new-purchase price and the renewal price are the same. Its ICON plan is Rp25,000 now and Rp25,000 next year. Set against a Rp12,900 promo that looks expensive. Set against a Rp54,900 renewal it is less than half. One caveat worth adding before you compare: that figure excludes PPN 11% according to its own page.

Three numbers decide it, and all three are in small type
Before you compare two plans, find the small print under the buy button. Three numbers matter: the monthly renewal rate, how many months must be paid up front, and whether tax is included. Without all three, two plans both advertised at Rp25,000 can mean four-year totals that differ by two million rupiah.

What the extra money buys on a business plan

In the business tier you stop buying storage and start buying a compute allowance that is not shared. Rumahweb prices its smallest such plan — 1 vCPU, 2 GB RAM, 30 GB SSD — at Rp470,000 a month. The size most buyers take, 2 vCPU with 4 GB RAM, costs Rp940,000.

Going from Rp25,000 to Rp470,000 is close to a twentyfold jump. For most company-profile sites it never pays itself back.

There is a middle route that gets discussed far less. Jagoan Hosting sells cloud hosting by the component: Rp50,000 for the account, then Rp15,000 per 10 GB of disk, Rp12,500 per processor core and Rp12,500 per gigabyte of memory — from Rp90,000 a month, adjustable up or down whenever you like. For an online store that only gets busy in certain weeks, that beats locking a large plan for a full year.

One thing a bigger plan does not change is how many people visit. Stronger hosting keeps a site standing when traffic arrives; it does not create the traffic. If your pages are slow because every image is two megabytes or because twenty plugins are stacked on top of each other, a Rp940,000 plan just runs the same problem slightly faster.

Fixing that side is usually cheaper and moves the needle further. Trimming assets and page structure falls inside the website development work we do, and it often makes the old hosting plan sufficient again.

When the cheap plan is the right answer

In our experience three out of four company-profile sites we look after would notice nothing if you moved them to a Rp470,000 plan. The workload is too light to reach any cap.

A cheap plan is still the correct choice when all of this holds:

  • The site is a company profile, product catalogue or blog, under roughly 10,000 visits a month.
  • No transaction is lost if the site takes five extra seconds during a busy hour.
  • What you store is pages and images, not a database being written to all day.

The honest downside: you cannot install anything the provider has not provided, your performance moves with your neighbours’, and some providers cap how many emails may leave per hour — a small thing that only bites the day you invoice a hundred customers at once.

Three signs your allowance has run out, all of which you can check yourself without waiting for a vendor to tell you:

  1. The admin area crawls while the front page is fine. The classic signature of a process cap: cached pages stay fast, anything that has to be recalculated stalls.
  2. A 503 error at the same hour every day. Not a coincidence. That is an account limit being hit, usually during the backup window or when a neighbour’s traffic peaks.
  3. CPU-limit warnings in cPanel. The figures sit in your account statistics. If you are touching one hundred per cent several times a week, upgrading has stopped being optional.

An online store in Waru, just south of Surabaya, hit all three at the start of every month, right on payday. They moved to component-priced cloud hosting at Rp140,000 a month — not the Rp940,000 plan — and the 503s stopped. Five times the old price, not thirty.

When it is genuinely unclear whether the hosting plan or the site itself is at fault, an hour spent in the server logs normally settles it. That conversation belongs with an IT consultant before any plan gets renewed.

Will moving hosts hurt our Google rankings?+
Not if the domain stays the same and the move does not cause a long outage. What does hurt rankings is a site that is slow or intermittently unreachable, so moving to a stronger plan usually helps rather than harms. Make sure every file and the database have landed on the new host before you repoint DNS, and keep the old account alive for a week afterwards.
We already bought a 48-month promo. Can we leave early?+
You can, but money paid up front rarely comes back in full. Hostinger listed a 30-day money-back guarantee on 3 November 2026; past that window, leaving means writing off the unused remainder of the term. If you are not confident the plan will be enough, take a short term first even though the monthly rate is higher.
Should we host in Indonesia or Singapore for local customers?+
For visitors who are all in Indonesia, choose a domestic location. Physical distance sets the wait on every request, and it shows on pages with many components. Rumahweb, Jagoan Hosting and Hostinger all offer Indonesian and Singaporean locations at the same or near-identical price, so there is almost no saving to chase. Hosting customer data domestically also simplifies your position under Indonesia’s personal data protection law.
